Importer Responsibilities at Canadian Customs (CBSA)
As your merchandise arrives in Canada, it is your responsibility as the importer of record (or your appointed customs broker) to ensure your shipment is properly reported, accounted for, and cleared with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).
A Canadian customs entry is not complete until the shipment has arrived at the port of entry, has been authorized by the CBSA, and any applicable duties and taxes have been paid (or released under an approved process). If an inspection or examination is required prior to release, it is the responsibility of the importer or their customs broker to coordinate the necessary steps and cover any related costs.
Please note: In addition to CBSA reporting and accounting requirements, some goods may require permits, certificates, or approvals from other government departments and agencies (OGDs). If your shipment includes regulated commodities (such as alcohol, tobacco, food products, medical items, or controlled goods), you should confirm requirements before import.
